I designed a kit for the Digital Scrapbook Addicts Designer Apprentice contest. I am considered a new designer although I've dabbled in it for a while. I still use a lot of CU stuff but I try to make it my own and I am learning to do my own original stuff. It will take some time. In the meantime you can download my mini kit over at DSA.

I was inspired by Water For Elephants to do this Old Fashioned Circus mini but once I get better at designing, I'll do one that actually matches WFE. It's one of my favorite books! Some people think I am a silly girl. Every night, I turn on Harry Potter and fall asleep watching it. When the dvd player went out and we couldn't get a new one, I set up my iPhone by the bed and when I can't sleep, I turn on Harry Potter. They are my "go-to" movies.

In 2001, I was too cool for Harry Potter, I thought it was dumb. By the 3rd movie, I watched it, and the end confused me. So I bought the book. I read it cover to cover and enjoyed it so much that I went out and bought the 4th book. In 2005, I saw my first Harry Potter in theaters, The Goblet of Fire. I'd read the book and loved it, and kept reading until the end of the series. But this movie, number 4, was the first I'd seen in a theater. I went alone on my day off. My husband was thousands of miles away on a military deployment.

Since that time, Harry Potter has been a part of my life. There was something magical about it. The boy who lived. The simple yet complicated idea of a magic done with your wand, the wand that chose you. The imagination was packed into the story so deeply and it inspired me. I began to read again and never, ever got tired of picking up a Harry Potter book when I didn't know what else to read.

So, call me a silly girl. These speeches given by the author, J.K. Rowling and the Potter trio brought tears to my eyes. Hogwarts is home, and a happy, magical place for kids to go to learn magic. While I might be muggle born, I am sure that if Hogwarts existed when I was 11, I'd have gotten my letter.

I scrapped this week

I am so fortunate to be a creative team member over at ScrapMatters. It's truthfully a blessing to work with these fantastic designers and share their work with you through my scrap pages.

This first page I did is one of my new favorites. I used a P365 idea to create a Disney page featuring shots from our Anniversary trip over Christmas 2009. The page features shots I haven't scrapped on their own page yet and may not be "page worthy" but they are still important memories.

Here's the awesome kit I used, called "a photo a day" by Plum Dumpling Designs

Another team I am on is Britt-ish Designs... Britt is really awesome and her kits are exactly my style. They are creatively inspired by Disney yet allow you the flexibility to scrap anything with it. You'll also notice by building your digital stash with her kits, you get a lot of kits that blend well together. It really increases your ability to produce high quality pages.

This week Britt has some really versatile tabbed alphas. I used the pink tabs to make this page from when my niece was much littler. I used a variety of kits from Britt's work but my main kit was "Sweet As Can Be".

Last but definitely not least, I created a page for Christopher. I used a new kit by Amy Stoffel. I've been on Amy's creative team for quite a while, almost a year I think now. Amy's designs are gorgeous, but not only that, Amy's a really fun person. She has a great personality and I think that shows in her work making it really stand out.

I also used this really fun alpha by Krisi's Kreations. She is a part of the ScrapMatters team and I love her work. This alpha is one of my favorites. You can pretty much use it on anything hence the title the "Everyday Metal Alpha". If you participated in my recent Speed Scrap, you got this for FREE as a prize!

I just wanted to share this CT call with you from Jenn Lindsey. She is back to creating and needs a few new team members. Her team is amazing, friendly, and lots of fun. When she designed kits, I was on her team for about a year. Actually I credit her for my start in the digital world. She encouraged me when she was a siggy maker on a forum I was on. I still have the siggy she made me somewhere on my computer!!

Photo Editing is an art...

I really have enjoyed photo editing lately. It's fun and really a form of art. To each person, a different edit on the same photo can produce equally beautiful art. So when I saw this link... Show Your Skills with Photoshop Elements or Photoshop by editing the image provided, I decided I had to try my hand at it. So here's my edit using Photoshop CS4.

I used a variety of my favorite actions from My Four Hens and made adjustments to give the fainted pink/yellow/blue tinges to the photo. I finished up by adding a pink edge and rounded corners. I hope you like it. Here's the original SOOC image.

I am doing some photo edits at no charge while I practice my hand at it. If you'd like a photo edited, shoot me an email with the photo and what you'd like to see in a finished image. If you have more than one, I charge a small fee (up to 5 photos). Photo edits make your photos pop and really are a true art.

We have so many things to be thankful for. I do my best to keep this in mind daily. I want to remember that even on the bad days, I am still very blessed. I had a lot of fun scrapbooking this week... here's what I came up with...

First up, Britt's new HUGE collab kit with Sahlin Studio, DeCrow Designs and Studio Tangie. This is a HUGE kit and stunning. I combined it with Britt's Just For Fun template for this first layout. I love how it came out.

This is my second layout with this kit. You know I love a kit when I do more than one layout... I had this great idea with these photos I took at Magic Kingdom. It was late at night when we were there for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. I'd never been to the Haunted Mansion and did NOT know those eyes MOVED!

I am spending the evening setting up my laptop again. I'll tell you the whole story later but for now, I had forgotten how much I loved my own little computer. Welcome home friend.

I've been playing today. I am using the new Template Designer in blogger to see how much easier it makes changing your blog look. What do you think?

Now I'd like to change the font to Century Gothic but that one isn't in the designer so I'll have to look for how to do that. I am not sure if I will do the custom font header, seems simple is better. I'll do some playing around and see what comes up.

I have great news! Scrap Matters is up and running again! There may still be a few glitches but the shop has released all it's new stuff today! Here's some of the great new releases!

First up, Coastal Getaway! This is a gorgeous collab by the SM Design Team and perfect for all your summer pictures.

I used this kit to for a hybrid project. I made a pad holder for a junior legal pad using THIS template by Krisi's Kreations. I loved how it came out!

I also LOVE this beautiful word art by Sahlin Studio. It matches her AFTER DARK kit which is one of my all time favorites. I haven't used it yet but it's on my list. I babysat my niece the other day and got some SUPER cute pics of her with the book light, the cat, and her favorite book as we went to sleep.

Here's a Sweet Deal... Love That Boy by Bella Gypsy and Graham Like the Cracker... I saw this kit and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

When I heard the title, I immediately thought of my husband... lol...

Scrap Matters Site is down...

If you've stopped by Scrap Matters in the past day or two, you might have noticed that the site isn't working. The wonderful admin over there know of the problem and it is being worked out as quickly as possible. Its a bummer but gives you some time to scrap some pages that you have been holding out on and they'll be ready to upload when the site is ready. Here's some pages I've scrapped recently.

This is a great kit... It's After Dark by Sahlin Studio and I absolutely love the colors. I've scrapped a couple like this one with it. Isn't it just rockin'?!

Summer Storm=Flooding

To say it's been a hectic couple of weeks, well that's an understatement. If you haven't checked out the news story about our house flood, the link is in the post below. Over at Scrap Matters this week, Plum Dumpling Designs must have felt my pain, lol. She released this awesome new kit called "Summer Storm". It was the perfect kit to scrap the mess left behind by our flooding.

So here's a couple pages I did with this kit. It is really a unique kit and so much fun to scrap with. This first layout was basically just to tell the story and show off the best of my photos during the flood. I have a ton of after photos too and photos from the rain that flooded the yard again the next day.

The photo through the door in this layout shows the flood the next day. I sat by the back door watching just in case.

I do feel very lucky and try to remain grateful every day. Compared to what some have had to deal with, this flood was just a minor inconvenience. I am thankful it was not worse. None of our larger furniture was damaged. I did get to replace towels and will replace some sheets and blankets (I threw anything I could on the floor to soak up or slow down the water). I also get a new set of drapes and maybe a new bookshelf outta the deal.

Flooded House

Basically we had a mess, Thursday was a rotten day. First thing Thursday morning, our toilet backed up and we had sewage in our bathroom floor, shower, and kitchen. It was SO gross and smelled HORRIBLE. Imagine that! We got it cleaned up, figured out, and moved on with our day.

Later that night, I was relaxing in the recliner and glanced to my left and water was pouring through our floor. We jumped up and quickly discovered it was *not sewer water again, but rather our backyard had flooded with the rain and water was pouring in through our backdoor. My husband and I sprang into action. He ran outside and opened the gates to the fence on both sides and said they were acting like a dam, holding water in. It was about 10 inches of water we think. Fortunately we had less than 6 inches in the house, maybe as little as 3-4. While he worked outside, I worked inside quickly using an air mattress we already had blown up in the living room to work as a barrier and getting all of our belongings up off the floor or out of the path of the water.

We were pretty lucky actually. We only lost a few items, some new towels, sheets and blankets (I used everything I could find to stop the water flow)...our drapes are ruined but they are replaceable and I wanted new ones anyway, and a bookshelf.

So we are slowly getting our house put back together. I was really scared about doing a news story, but I thought what the heck. So the link at the top is our story featured online. It was also on the 5,6, 9, 10 o'clock news. Each story was slightly different so that was pretty cool. I'll share some photos and videos soon but now, I am off to my niece Hannah's, 3 year old birthday party. It's Toy Story "3" themed... how cool is that?!

I love speed scraps, they are a way to crank out a rockin' layout in a short amount of time. They let you scrap outside your normal giving you a set of instructions to follow. Lots of times, those things are not what I would normally use in a layout. I end up with something unique and crafty almost every time. So Sunday, July 11th, LDrag Designs is hosting a speed scrap over at Scrap Matters. Here's the announcement and scroll down a little further to see the awesome PP (participation prize).

I'm a terrible blogger these days. I can't even claim being busy, really. Today, I decided to do a little word art freebie. I keep seeing these images of the beaches where oil is reaching them and remembering a trip my husband and I took to Panama City Beach, FL several years ago. We stopped in Destin, FL and visited Henderson Beach. The shores were full of white sand and the waters were the most beautiful color of green, then a deep blue. You may not have any use for this word art but I was thinking about some layouts and what word art I'd want, and this is what I came up with. If you like it, leave me a comment so I'll know.

Scrap Orchard is moving! Scrap Matters Speed Scrap!

Dear friends, if you have tried to stop by Scrap Orchard, you'll notice the site is DOWN... I know, I know, it's hard without being able to click and pull up our orchard forum... I miss it already too... however, it will be back later this week and it's going to be WORTH the move.

You may have noticed that several of our favorite stores were overwhelmed with visitors during the recent iNSD sales. At one point, Scrap Matters had 900+ visitors to their store. It's hard to for the servers to keep up. Granted, the inconvenience wasn't tragic but just a little annoying. The good news is that these stores like Scrap Orchard and Scrap Matters are taking the time to help reduce these problems in the future. So, be a little patient as those transitions happen.

If you are missing the Orchard this week, head on over to Scrap Matters and check out the Tuesday's Speed Scrap! I can't be there sadly, I'll be driving to Little Rock to take my husband to a pre-surgery appointment. He's having his sinuses worked over so he can breathe a little clearer. But I'll be checking our the lovely layouts later on to see what you came up with!

It's a brighter look around here! Tell me what you think! I re-did my blog yesterday because I figured it was getting a bit old... it was dark and now that Spring or practically Summer is here, it's time to let in the light and open the windows, breathe in the fresh air.

I chose a great kit by Flergs for the re-design... It's called Paradise and I grab the bundle over at Scrapbook Graphics. It's a great price at only 10.00 for EVERYTHING! I love the colors and the fun, beachy feel.

So that's it for now, but stay tuned... there's always something fun and exciting around the corner.

Time is running low to grab the iNSD Grab Bags over at Scrap Matters... Take some time and go check it out... Here's a couple of my favorites... This first one is by Britt-ish Designs. I just picked it up today so I am still working on a layout and I LOVE how it's coming out. The colors are bright and work great for Disney pictures.

This great grab bag is by Jennifer Barrette... It is different than what I would normally pick out in a store which is funny b/c I have such a wide variety of what I like in scrapping. I am SO glad I grabbed it... I loved everything about it.

I did this page with her GB and it's one of my favorites!! That's my cutie patootie niece, Hannah, who's 2 and a half!

I also did this layout of my cat, Evie, sitting in the window... The colors were so perfect... Again, LOVED everything in this bag, it's so worth grabbing! Do it now!! LOL!

iNSD Survivor and 40% off

Well, how did you fair this weekend? Did you find some great sales? Win a few prizes? Have some fun chatting and scrapping? I definitely did. iNSD fell on the perfect weekend for me. My DH was out of town for military drill and on those weekends, I get stuck at home with no car. I was happy this weekend though. I did a fireside chat at Scrap Matters on Friday night, hosted by none other than Britt-ish Designs. She gave us a sweet participation prize and the chat had me rolling in laughter the entire time. At one time, there were over 75 crazy scrappers chatting and guessing for prizes at once. HEEEELAARRRIOUS... It really was, I thought my neighbors could hear me laughing since my windows were open. I figured they'd think I was nuts.

I faired well for this weekend. I overspent (of course) but am happy with what I bought and NO, I am not telling you how much I spent! Ha Ha!

So if you visited Scrap Matters this weekend, we had a HUGE sale and the store was really bogged down. Our fantastic owner, Andilynn, even upgraded the server to help the shop keep up. Rest assured, the customer service offered is fantastic and they've even extended the sale to be sure you get a chance to get your purchases. Stop by the SHOP and see if you can do a little more iNSD pocketbook damage. Be patient and shop during off peak times for the best results.

Okay, now I am going to tell you about MY moment that matters...
My Wedding Day...

So, the back story is that my husband and I met in September of 1995 working at Best Buy. Ironically, I'd just started a few weeks back and I'd been "warned" about a couple of guys that would "hit on me"... One was 27 (I was 18) and the other was on military duty. Well, the "other" returned from military duty and turned out he had a great smile and was super sweet. I didn't really care though, so when he asked me out, I shrugged and said "sure, why not"... By the end of our first date, we were inseparable.

Fast forward to 2006, we were still "dating" and living together. We'd moved in together 3 months after we met, December of 1995 and made it 11 years of ups and downs and rounds (ha ha!). July of 2006 brought a bit of a surprise, a positive pregnancy test. We embraced it and actually started to get excited when our son was born prematurely and passed away. We were devastated. His name was Christopher and he was born/died on September 20, 2006.

We know God plans things for a reason, and I think in this case, Christopher was sent to us to help us move forward with our lives. We decided in early December to get married to honor our son's memory. A quick two weeks of planning, and we were married under the Lights of the Ozarks on the square at Dickson Street. The lights are a local tradition where the city lights up the entire square. It’s beautiful and it was the perfect “moment that matters”. Here’s a couple of photos…

I used this kit to create another fav page of mine... This is my niece who's 2 and a half years old. My mom asked me to try to fix the shine on her face so I flipped it to a sepia/black/white coloring, and then my mom said, "but I want to see her blue eyes".... so I came up with this... I think it looks kinda cool, don't you?

It's almost time! This weekend marks the annual {inter}National Scrapbooking Day celebration!! I remember last year clearly, I spent a small fortune on some fantastic kits and great deals. This year, I am celebrating joining the Scrap Matters site CT team! Yup, my April guest spot turned into a permanent CT spot. My fellow April guest is LeeAndra and she is staying on as well! I am very happy with this news and it's great following a really crappy month.

Guest time for me at Scrap Matters!

Well, it's HERE! My guest month at the Scrap Matters shop! I am so thrilled that I got picked, I've tried out a couple of times. I love the site, it's my top store and I shop there ALL the time. Sometimes I don't even tell my husband, hee hee! Shhhhhh...

So I wanted to share the new releases that I LOVE and got to work with so far. Guess what though! This does not even include my first assigned designer which I am THRILLED to say is Britt-ish Designs. I'll have more on her newest kit after the baseball game today.

So here it is... First, check out Forest Friends and the Mini Kit Add-on just for Easter! It's by Erica Zane. She's one of those designers who you see and haven't worked with her stuff, then you try it ONCE and you are forever a fan. So... try it once!

Well, I was also SO HAPPY to see this kit come up! I am a baseball fan of our local college team, the Arkansas Razorbacks. We are very fortunate to have season tickets in the 2nd row behind the home dugout on the 3rd baseline. They are fantastic seats and we have an awesome view and some FUN people sitting in front of us for the 2nd year in a row. WE LOVE IT!

For me, I used Batter Up (the main kit), it was perfect because our team colors are RED/WHITE (GO HOGS!). Chelle's Creations designed this and she thought of EVERYTHING. She made several mini kits in a variety of great colors just for your team's colors. Do you have girls? Like softball? She thought of that too. Her softball kit is SO cute! So grab that up while you are buying your team minis!

I've done some other work this week and I'll post about it later... I'll also edit this post tonight and add some links so you can go check out my layouts (I hope you'll want to check them out!). My Batter Up layout is kind of funny and highlights a tense moment during the Arkansas/LSU game last Friday where BOTH teams were in the field. I do mean the WHOLE teams... never seen that before.

First day of Spring Snow?

Well, this weekend marked the first day of Spring, but guess what? Mother Nature disagreed and dumped about 15 inches of snow on us. I was thrilled to have one more good snow, best of the winter season I think. Arkansas weather is kinda crazy. Here's some of the best pictures of our weekend. Tomorrow, we are supposed to be in the 40's and continue to the 60's through the rest of the week. Wild, huh?

What I'm up to...

Hello! I've been staying busy! There's lots to do day to day but even more important (ha ha!) there's lots of scrapping to be done. So here's what I am up to!

Can you find my name? Look hard, it's there!! Yup! I was picked as a CT member for LLC by Amy Stoffel (Live Love Create). I have been a fan of Amy's work since using it at Inspiration Lane. She's now over at one of my favorite stores, Scrap Orchard! I'm thrilled to be a part of her team, they are a bunch of goofballs over there, so it is TONS of fun!

See the other ad??? Can you believe it?! Yes, that's my name under the guest spot over at the Scrap Matters shop. Scrap Matters is also my favorite store! It was a tough, VERY tough, site CT call. 130 applications. The admin over there did a great job, especially my good scrap friend, Kim (kimbytx). She's the HEAD CT for the site team! Wow, her work has always been really great and she's an awesome friend!

So I can't forget to give a shout out to my other CT teams. I love working for Amanda Heimann's Ad team over at SO, and Sarah Bennett at SM... they've been awesome teams so far and I hope to continue making great layouts and ads for them. My favorite part is making great friends and promoting great work! You may see some of that here! Keep a watch out!

It's Valentine's Day! Cupid, love, hearts, smooching, lol. I'm a very lucky woman because I have had a valentine for the 15th straight year. Same one, lol! We may not always do something special but we are always in love, no matter what. Here's some photos of my "funny" valentine...

In honor of this 15th Valentines Day, I have a freebie that I hope you'll LOVE. I had lots of fun making it. There are 13 papers just for you. I titled them "Just a Smooch". I created the color scheme using a great photo from Sleeping Beauty.

Just a little snow...

It's been such a great winter here in Arkansas lately. We had a white Christmas, which unfortunately meant we didn't see our family on the day of, but it's only gotten better since. We've had several days of decent snow! We missed our first day back to work after the holiday break due to the weather, and have had a couple more days since. I am truly a winter kind of girl. I love the warmth of a fireplace, the sparkling of the snow (reminds me of Edward in the sun...*wink)

Here's a few of the photos I took on the day we had about 8 inches of snow. If you don't know, I live in Northwest Arkansas and a good snow is a few inches. We were loving the 8+ inches we got. I was feeling glad that my cocker spaniels had not yet been shaved down. They are overdue but I'd rather have them messy and fluffy than cold. They LOVED the snow!
